With more funding the AGCF would issue research grants to deliver the following projects:
1. Finding a reliable population screening test for Ovarian Cancer:
A successful screening test would allow more women to be diagnosed with Stage 1 disease, where the 5-year survival is about 90% - often without the need for chemotherapy.
Currently 75% of women diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer are already in an advanced stage and have a 70% mortality rate (or 30% chance of survival) within five years.
2. Developing new "gene" or "targeted" therapies
Developing therapies to improve cure rates for patients with advanced or recurrent disease.
3. Relationship Between Obesity and Endometrial Cancer
Understanding the relationship between obesity and Endometrial Cancer, which is an increasing problem in Australia.
