Executive Officer - Dr Mark Burgess

Mark BurgessAfter serving as Executive Manager (Research Grants Manager) with the Australian Gynaecological Cancer Foundation Mark was invited to become Executive Officer athe the 24 march 2017 Board Meeting. Mark's role combines his passion for medical research and strong belief in providing Australian researchers more opportunities to practise their high-value skills to innovate new technologies, cure disease and provide a better quality of life for all. Concurrently, Mark is a Project Officer (Standards & Program Development) at The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards where he combines his skills in governance and policy with his knowledge in medical sciences to develop better quality and safety governance frameworks for implementation in the healthcare industry.

Mark graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (Science) in Medical Science & Cancer Pharmacology in March 2014 from the University of Western Sydney from which he has produced four manuscripts, three conference proceedings and awarded grants and scholarships totalling $150k.

For seven years, Mark has engaged in academic undergraduate teaching in Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney, University of Western Sydney and Endeavour College.

Mark is a passionate, methodical, focused and driven person. His expertise in government, teaching, science, health & medical research has lead him to develop high level skills in methodology development, problem solving, communication of ideas and concepts to a wide variety of audience types.

Mark interests are in politics, social issues, science, research, snowboarding, netball, and regularly competes and coaches in Australian water polo leagues.

Mark’s future ambitions are to expand and apply his problem solving skills to a variety of settings and explore their application both in the commercial world and to make further contributions to the scientific and Australian community. He intends to further his formal education in International Business & Relations.
